Ring sizing
One of the things I get asked a lot is “how do I find out my/someone else’s ring size?”
There are various different options;
Come and meet me at one of my events so I can measure your ring size. I can measure fingers, or an existing ring that fits well on the same finger the new ring will be worn on. If you’re trying to work out a ring size in secret, I’ve successfully managed to work out ring sizing for engagement rings by getting people to try on some of the rings I keep in stock, and my ring sizer, without the recipient suspecting a thing! Just get in touch in advance, so I can help with your secret mission!
If meeting in person isn’t an option, I can post out an adjustable ring sizer to you. Just drop me a line.
Download my printable ring sizer to work out the size of an existing ring that’s a good fit. It will also be very useful to know the width and style of the ring that’s been measured, and whether it’s worn on the same hand as the ring you’re measuring. Fingers on dominant hands tend to be slightly larger than on non-dominant hands.
If you have an idea of the ring size, I will happily send you a sample ring or two made from copper so that can be tried on before finalising an order. If I’ve not been able to see someone to take their ring size, I often prefer to do this to prevent needing to resize the finished ring.
If necessary, rings can usually be adjusted slightly. For most designs, it’s easier to slightly increase the size of a ring than to decrease it.
I have had several customers suggest putting string/paper round someone’s finger when they’re asleep to try and secretly work out someone’s ring size. Whilst this might make for an interesting conversation, it really isn’t an accurate option! Plus they’re likely to wake up and be confused/unimpressed/work out what you’re trying to do.
